The manager of a livestock farm has been arrested after police found more than 200 sheep and goats dead from starvation and neglect.

Video from the scene shows officers walking through the farmyard in Mula, in the Region of Murcia, Spain, past the decaying bodies of sheep and goats, some lying inside pens and others scattered in open areas.

Carcasses are visible in various states of decomposition, while live animals stand weakly nearby.

The Civil Guard carried out the arrest on 9th August as part of Operation Horrors, launched to investigate suspected animal abuse and abandonment.

Specialists from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) began the probe in July after receiving an anonymous tip-off about animals being left without care on the property.

During the inspection, officers found sheep, goats, and a sheepdog dead, as well as two horses without adequate food or water.

They saw feeders filled with dirt and stones, and water troughs that were either dry or contaminated with blood and animal remains.

They also discovered hazardous waste and unsafe structures posing a risk to the animals.

While searching for the person responsible, officers provided water and food to surviving animals that showed alarming weakness.

Authorities immobilised the farm and proposed disciplinary proceedings for serious violations of animal welfare and public health.

The Civil Guard later located and arrested the farm’s manager as a suspect in a crime against animals.
