This is the moment locals who stormed a police station and dragged out a murder suspect beat him unconscious and burn him alive.
The shocking scenes happened in Tonantins, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, on 2nd August, after Jose Andrei de Matos Rodrigues, 36, was arrested for stabbing his partner Valdilene da Silva Prestes, 44, to death and seriously injuring her 21-year-old daughter.
According to investigators, Rodrigues used a club to attack Valdilene before stabbing her in the neck.
When her daughter later asked where her mother was, he allegedly lied and claimed she had gone out to sunbathe.
He then stabbed the young woman three times during a struggle. She was hospitalised with wounds to the head and is in stable condition.
Police later found Valdilene dead at her home, with stab wounds to the head and signs of asphyxiation.
Rodrigues was tracked down hiding in a wooded area and surrendered without resistance.
Later that evening, a mob descended on the police station and forcibly removed Rodrigues from his cell, still in handcuffs.
Video recorded by residents shows the crowd vandalising the 54th Interactive Police Station, ripping down fences and hurling fireworks, rocks, wood, and Molotov cocktails at the building before forcing their way inside.
Rodrigues was beaten with clubs, stones, punches, and kicks until he lost consciousness, before a man poured flammable liquid over his body and set him on fire on the pavement outside.
Local health officials said medical care was also provided to other inmates who suffered panic attacks during the attack, fearing they too would be killed.
The Amazonas Civil Police said appropriate measures are being taken to identify those responsible for the lynching. The Military Police deployed a team from the Shock Battalion to reinforce order in the city.
