This is the moment a cement lorry tyre suddenly explodes during repairs injuring the man observing the work as it blows up in his face.
The incident happened in the town of Pertek in Tunceli Province, Turkey, as the vehicle was being repaired on 16th October.
Video shows 46-year-old businessman Baris Aktas bending down to watch workers fixing a tyre on a lorry that had suffered a blowout earlier during a trip from Erzincan to Malatya.
As the mechanics carry out the repair, one of the intact tyres suddenly explodes, sending shards of rubber and metal flying across the workshop.
Aktas is seen flung backwards by the force of the blast as fragments strike his face, neck, and arm.
He was taken to Pertek State Hospital where doctors stitched his face and placed his right arm in a cast.
The father of two later said he was lucky to have escaped without suffering more serious injury.
Aktas said the lorry belonged to his Erzurum-based company and that he had gone to check on the repair work after being told one of the truck’s tyres had burst.
He explained that as he bent down to see what the workers were doing, another tyre suddenly exploded, shattering the mudguards and protective covers.
He said the blast threw him to the ground and caused him to fear for the mechanics working underneath the vehicle.
He added that fortunately, the tyre had burst outwards and that none of the workers were hurt.
Aktas said he had since had his stitches removed and his cast taken off, adding that the incident showed how dangerous it can be to stand close to loaded vehicles, and that safety warnings about keeping at least 25 metres (82 feet) away should be taken seriously.
