An 11-year-old girl has died after a fall from her pony during a show jumping competition.
The accident happened on Sunday, 10th August, at the LRV pony tournament in Sint-Lenaarts, in the Antwerp province of Belgium.
Jules Lyssens was seriously injured and taken to hospital, where she died on Friday, 15th August.
It is currently unclear what led to the fatal accident.
Friends of Jules later pinned an emotional tribute to her memory.
In the post, they note that it was unbearably difficult to write, before recalling how she was the first to finish a plate of spaghetti without cutlery, the first to forget a stupid argument, and that she was a fantastic girl with a heart of gold who everyone loved.
They described her as a pony fanatic who lived each day with joy.
The tribute ended: “Dream, gallop and jump… We're gonna miss you, girl! A fanatic rider who had just left our pony club, but has stolen a place in our hearts forever."
The Landelijke Rijverenigingen (LRV), the Flemish recreational riding league, confirmed her death and said the tragedy left deep scars within the community. They stressed that safety at tournaments is always a priority.
Jules had recently joined LRV Lille, but she had previously been a member of the Merksplas club, where she left a lasting impression.
The association also paid tribute to her, writing: "You are and will remain a little star, Jules.
"Our thoughts are with her parents, family, and friends at the pony club.
"This is unreal and leaves deep feelings of sadness and compassion within our LRV community and the equestrian and pony world.”
