A beauty queen is facing up to 15 years behind bars after she was caught travelling with a military-grade weapon and live ammunition in her SUV.
Isadora Lagos, 25, was arrested alongside three other suspects after a routine police check at a toll booth in Acapulco, Mexico, ended with agents discovering a 9 mm calibre pistol, two magazines and 35 useful cartridges on 14th August.
The group could not provide any legal documents for the gun, meant for exclusive use by the army, and were taken into custody.
The seizure came amid a major crackdown on illegal arms trading in Mexico, after authorities discovered criminal gangs were smuggling assault rifles through the same area where Lagos was pulled over.
It is understood that police are investigating whether she might have any links to the criminal network.
She has been charged with illegal weapons possession and could face up to 15 years in prison.
Lagos, who was crowned Miss Guerrero 2024, holds a law degree and, until recently, was also studying gastronomy.
In addition, her profile as a model stood out for her passion for sports - she practiced CrossFit -, art, classical architecture, and Mexican history, as well as her volunteer work in animal adoption, vaccination, and sterilisation campaigns.
Lagos was chosen to represent Guerrero in the national Miss Mexico 2025 pageant, but she resigned from her state title and her participation in the contest due to disagreements with the organisation.
