This is the moment a leopard pounces on a sleeping dog, locks its jaws around the pet's throat and suffocates it before leaping back over a wall with the animal in its mouth.
The incident took place on the night of 18th August at farmer Dharmesh Sahu's home in Babu Saletola village, in Kanker district, in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
CCTV footage shows the leopard climbing into the courtyard before pouncing on the dog.
The dog struggles, squealing in agony, but the leopard keeps its grip until the pet goes limp.
The leopard then drags the body and climbs back over the wall with the dog held in its mouth.
Bloodstains were found in the courtyard the next morning when the family discovered their pet was missing.
They reviewed the CCTV cameras and saw what had happened.
Forest department teams went to the house after the attack was reported.
Officials said it was the second time the same leopard had entered a home in the area after it killed two puppies on 14th–15th August.
Forest divisional officer Raunak Goyal confirmed that surveillance operations are now in place and a rescue plan is being considered.
