A 12-year-old disabled girl in a wheelchair slipping towards a pond and her grandmother who tried to stop her had to be rescued after both ended up falling in.
The incident happened in Fule Village, near the city of Heyuan, in Guangdong Province, China, at around 6:00pm on 16th August.
Surveillance video shows two women talking in a yard when the wheelchair began rolling toward a pond. One woman chased after it and both she and the wheelchair fell into the water.
The woman in red, who had been chatting moments before, is seen rushing over to help. Villagers then pulled the grandmother and child out.
Officials later confirmed that the child in the wheelchair was a 12-year-old disabled girl. Her grandmother had tried to stop her falling but ended up in the pond as well.
A town official said the pond was about three feet deep and both were unharmed.
On 18th August, Lianping County officials said they were aware of the video and confirmed that the pair were rescued in time.
The town and village are now carrying out holiday safety awareness campaigns and are working on protective measures around the pond to reduce safety risks.
