Two teenagers have been caught on camera allegedly attempting to assassinate a Russian military officer using poison applied to his parked car.
The incident took place in Novosibirsk, Russia, and the footage was published by the Investigative Committee on 7th August.
The video shows the two suspects, wearing hoods, gloves and face coverings, approaching a Nissan Juke and appearing to apply a substance to its surfaces. They are later seen discarding a cotton swab and gloves into a nearby bin.
According to investigators, the pair aged 16 received three containers of toxic chemicals from Ukrainian intelligence agents and were instructed to apply the substances to areas of the vehicle that the officer would be likely to touch.
The teenagers were detained by agents from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) before the assassination could be carried out.
The soldier was not harmed.
Authorities say the suspects were motivated by a financial reward allegedly promised by the Ukrainian special services.
A flask marked “Substance from the rear-view mirror of a Nissan Juke” was seized as material evidence.
The minors have been charged with attempted murder of a serviceman.
They were remanded in custody and will undergo forensic psychological and psychiatric evaluation.
