A couple got a real shock when a live wire dropped on them as they stood outside their home waiting to open the door.
The accident happened in the Pina neighbourhood, in the city of Recife, Brazil, at around 9:50pm on 21st August.
Security camera footage shows a flash of light as the cable breaks and falls. The woman is hit in the legs and thrown to the ground by the shock. Her husband pulls away and then runs back to help her.
The cable, which carried 13,800 volts, a dose considered potentially lethal, remained on the ground sparking and smoking outside the couple's gate until it was repaired by Neoenergia at around 1am on 22nd August.
The victims were identified as Elidiane Vitor, 43, and Fabio Alexandre, 45.
Elidiane was knocked down and suffered burns to her legs.
Fabio was struck on the arm and later described how the current left entry and exit wounds in his chest, close to his heart.
The couple said the shock burned through clothing, leaving holes in underwear and jeans, and caused burns to their arms, legs, chest, and back.
Elidiane said she has not slept or eaten properly since the incident and is traumatised by entering her home.
Fabio said: "I keep crying when I remember seeing my wife lying there. I could have lost my wife."
Neoenergia said the cause of the short circuit is being investigated and the company has made itself available to provide assistance.
The couple filed a report at the Boa Viagem Police Station and the Civil Police are investigating.
Their lawyer said he will request action from the Pernambuco Regulatory Agency and added that if the energy company does not respond adequately, the victims will pursue damages in court.
