This is the gruesome moment a man bludgeons his partner with a sledgehammer in full view of neighbours who filmed the murder through an open balcony door.
The attack happened in the Caji neighbourhood in Lauro de Freitas, Brazil, on Tuesday, 19th August.
The victim was identified as 37-year-old Laina Santana Costa Guedes, whose screams echoed alongside those of horrified onlookers as she was beaten to death.
In the video, Laina crawls onto a balcony shouting for help before her merciless attacker strikes her repeatedly with a sledgehammer, landing more than 15 blows.
Another person tries to intervene but is thrown back inside as the assault continues.
The assailant was identified as Ramon de Jesus Guedes. After the attack, residents forced their way into the property in an attempt to save the victim, and he fled onto the balcony.
Video shows him clambering down from his flat to the balcony directly below before dropping again to a second floor beneath.
As he tries to climb down further, he slips and plunges to the ground.
He scrambles to his feet and runs through the street as furious neighbours chase after him and surround him.
The couple's two daughters were inside and witnessed the killing. The eldest, a teenager, was injured while trying to protect her mother and younger sister.
Neighbours later rushed Laina to Cajazeiras Municipal Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The suspect, who was injured in the fall as he tried to escape, was also hospitalised.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to a nearby health facility.
The Bahia Civil Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the 27th Territorial Police Station on charges of femicide.
