This is the moment two young children are seen climbing onto the outside of a 13th floor balcony and attempting pull-ups with their feet dangling in mid-air.
The dangerous incident took place in a residential complex in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China, and was reported on 7th August.
Footage filmed by a resident across the street shows the boys, aged around six or seven, gripping the glass enclosure as they inched sideways along a ledge barely wide enough for half a foot.
One child lowers his feet until they hang freely in the air, his entire body supported only by his hands.
The person filming, named only as Mr Liu, said he did not dare to shout for fear of startling them into a fall.
Instead, he immediately contacted the property management.
Security staff and the children’s parents arrived at the scene within two minutes and pulled them back to safety.
According to local officials, the children’s father was out at the time, leaving them unsupervised.
Staff from the street office and neighbourhood committee have since warned the parents not to leave the children home alone and recommended balcony renovations to remove safety hazards.
Authorities say the summer school holidays have led to an increase in children being left unsupervised at home, raising the risk of balcony and window accidents.
They cited similar recent incidents, including a three-year-old boy in Guangdong who was trapped outside a 24th floor window before being rescued by firefighters, and a child in Sichuan who fell to his death from an unglazed window in a home under renovation.
Officials urged parents to install protective nets or guardrails on balconies and windows, keep climbable furniture away from these areas, and never rely solely on verbal warnings to prevent dangerous play.
They added that if a child is spotted in danger, adults should avoid sudden loud noises or scolding, and instead keep calm while guiding them to safety and calling for help.
