A female butcher shop worker has been arrested after he was filmed allegedly placing rat poison into a colleague’s drink following a workplace argument.
The incident took place at a butcher shop in Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger, a city in the Marcos Juarez department of Cordoba province, central Argentina, on 28th May.
A 46-year-old employee is accused of attempting to poison a co-worker after the dispute inside the workplace.
According to the investigation, the woman allegedly placed rat poison inside a thermos used by the male colleague to drink mate, a traditional herbal beverage widely consumed in Argentina.
Security camera footage captured the sequence of events inside the butcher shop, showing the suspect approaching the worker’s thermos during a moment she was alone in the work area.
Investigators said the woman had been involved in a verbal altercation with another employee shortly before the alleged incident took place.
The footage shows her opening the thermos, pouring in a substance believed to be rat poison, and later returning to the container while continuing her work.
She is also seen handling and shaking the thermos, which investigators believe may have been done to help the substance dissolve in the hot liquid.
The male worker later used the thermos during his shift and began to feel unwell several hours afterwards.
He reportedly developed nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, before requiring medical attention as his condition worsened.
Medical tests later indicated a severe poisoning consistent with ingestion of a toxic substance, according to the investigation.
Attention turned to the workplace after security footage was reviewed by those responsible for the business, prompting a formal complaint to police.
The butcher shop owner filed the report after viewing the recordings and noticing the alleged actions of the employee.
The case was then taken up by the Corral de Bustos-Ifflinger Prosecutor’s Office, which ordered further evidence gathering.
Authorities seized the thermos and mate cup used by the worker for forensic analysis.
A search was also carried out at the suspect’s home, where officers reportedly found a mobile phone and a substance believed to be rat poison.
The woman has been formally charged with attempted aggravated assault by poisoning, while the investigation remains ongoing.
