A couple who rarely play the lottery have scooped more than a million euros after being inspired by a horoscope to buy a ticket.
The win took place in the Salzlandkreis district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, and was reported on 3rd August 2025.
According to Astrid Wessler, spokesperson for Lotto Sachsen-Anhalt, the pair only filled out a ticket because a horoscope told them July was a good month to play.
The couple matched six numbers in the Lotto 6 aus 49 draw on Saturday, 26th July, landing them a prize of EUR 1,023,296.50 (GBP 867,400).
They reportedly only play "now and then", and said they had hoped to recover the EUR 11.80 (GBP 10) they spent on the nine-field ticket, which included the handling fee.
The pair eventually went to the Lottohaus in Magdeburg to confirm their win and claim their prize, saying they still couldn’t believe their luck.
Lotto Sachsen-Anhalt declined to reveal the zodiac signs the winners had based their decision on.
