This is the moment a car is struck three times in quick succession by lightning as another motorist filmed from his own vehicle during a torrential downpour.
The incident happened at the Tieshan Service Area in Beihai, Guangxi Province, China, on 5th August.
Video recorded from inside a parked car shows a small vehicle moving slowly through the rain when a lightning bolt slams into its roof, followed almost immediately by two more strikes that send bright sparks flying.
The motorist filming said he had pulled over to wait for the storm to ease and had been recording the rain when he accidentally captured the triple strike.
He said each bolt was close enough to cause a visible tremor and that the targeted car stalled after the final hit.
The footage shows the vehicle motionless as the rain continues to hammer down.
The witness said he considered it unsafe to remain nearby and drove away.
Experts later explained that people inside a car during a lightning strike are protected because the metal shell acts as a Faraday cage, conducting the current into the ground.
On 6th August, local expressway officials said they had received no reports of injuries or damage.
Traffic police in the area confirmed such incidents are regarded as natural disasters and no complaints had been lodged.
