An accountant strangled his wife and their young son aged just 10 just before slashing his wrists in an apparent row about money.
The killings took place at the rented flat of 41-year-old Omer Gokhan Alaci in Edirne, Turkey, where the bodies of his 38-year-old wife Didem Ors Alaci and their 10-year-old son Doruk Kaan Alaci were discovered on 4th August.
Local reports said Alaci had recently sold the family’s apartment and moved them into a rental property due to financial problems.
The move is believed to have triggered renewed arguments with his wife, who worked at a call centre.
Police say he first strangled her and then turned on their son, killing both.
Didem's family became concerned when she failed to show up for a planned breakfast.
Her mother, Meliha Ors, called her son-in-law to ask why she was not answering, but Alaci reportedly claimed both Didem and Doruk were still sleeping before ending the call.
When the family was unable to make further contact, they alerted emergency services.
Police, paramedics, and firefighters were dispatched to the address, and the fire brigade forced open the front door.
Inside, emergency crews found the lifeless bodies of the mother and child and discovered Alaci seriously injured with slashed wrists.
He was taken to Trakya University Medical Faculty Hospital, where he remains under treatment. His condition was later reported as not life-threatening.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the killings.
