This is the terrifying moment a masked robber armed with a huge iron rod stood poised over the son of a retired judge ready to attack him if he woke up while his gang ransacked the house.
The break-in happened in Indore, in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, at around 3:30am on Sunday, 10th August.
Security camera footage shows the intruder standing just feet from the sleeping man, gripping the weapon and watching for any movement, while an accomplice rummages through cupboards and drawers.
A third robber, not clearly seen in the footage, reportedly kept watch outside the room.
Despite an alarm ringing, the family – including the judge’s daughter-in-law and children sleeping in another room – remained asleep throughout the raid.
Police said the gang made off with cash and jewellery worth about INR 500,000 (GBP 4,200).
The house reportedly belongs to Justice Ramesh Garg, a former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, who was also asleep at the time.
Officers said the robbery took place on the same day as a string of similar incidents in nearby areas, and CCTV footage from multiple locations showed masked and gloved criminals operating in an organised manner.
Senior police officer Umakant Choudhary confirmed that multiple teams have been formed to investigate and said they believe the same gang may be behind previous break-ins.
