German intelligence has warned that a former blonde boxing champion who converted to Islam is using her influence to draw women into the radical Islamist scene.
Hanna Hansen, 41, from Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, converted in 2023 and now appears wearing a headscarf alongside convicted extremists.
The Bavarian domestic intelligence agency has given her a dedicated section in its latest report, describing her as one of the most dangerous Islamist influencers in Germany.
It says she uses her own story of leaving what she calls an un-Islamic life to encourage women to see the hijab as a form of empowerment and to remove secularism from their lives.
According to officials, she presents these messages in a way that appears relatable and identity-forming, allowing her to reach a wide and mostly young audience.
Her public talks and online content also promote Sharia law and condemn sex outside marriage and homosexuality.
Hansen has appeared with radical male preachers including Sven Lau and Pierre Vogel, and with so-called "sister groups" that target young women in crisis.
Authorities say these groups often begin with topics such as clothing, hygiene, and sexuality before introducing political themes, with some sharing material from anti-Semitic extremists.
German newspaper BILD has previously reported on her online activity and her 200,000 Instagram followers, including those believed to be from German intelligence.
When asked about the intelligence report, Hansen said: "I don't care and it changes nothing. They can write what they want – I will carry on."
Hansen had won several national championships in kickboxing, as well a world championship, before an eye injury forced her to retire from her athletic life.
