This is the moment a young student is put in a wheelchair and taken to hospital after being stung by a scorpion while trying on clothes in the fitting room in a Zara store.
The incident happened around midday on Wednesday, 20th August, at the Zara shop in ParkShopping, in Guara, in Brazil’s Federal District.
Video shows 20-year-old architecture student Alicia Spies sitting in a wheelchair as she is pushed out of the store by shopping centre staff.
She was later transferred to an ambulance that took her to the Asa Norte Regional Hospital (HRAN), where she remains under medical observation.
Alícia said she had been trying on clothes when she felt something crawling up her leg before experiencing a sharp pain and dizziness.
She looked down and saw a large yellow scorpion on her clothes before she dropped everything on the floor and screamed for help.
Her mother, who was with her in the fitting room, alerted staff and also called for help.
Staff from the shopping centre gave first aid until firefighters arrived.
Alicia said she was treated at the hospital for five hours, receiving intravenous fluids.
She has since returned home but says she continues to suffer pain at the site of the sting.
In a statement, ParkShopping said the customer was promptly attended to by its emergency team and taken by ambulance to hospital.
The mall added that it maintains strict pest control protocols and that the safety and well-being of visitors and employees remain a priority.
Zara also published a statement saying: "Zara deeply regrets what happened and confirms that it is in direct contact with the customer, providing all necessary assistance.
"We take this case very seriously and are working to ensure that all appropriate preventative measures are taken."
