This is the shocking moment a young woman and her boyfriend fall from a second-floor balcony during a row at a bar.

The accident happened in the early hours of Monday, 4th August, at the El Chapo bar in Huanuco, Peru.

CCTV footage shows Emely Fiorela Mego Diaz, 21, who worked at the venue, chasing her boyfriend, 27-year-old Henry Manuel del Aguila Macedo, across a corridor on the second floor before colliding with him at the top of a stairwell that lacked a safety railing.

The impact caused them to lose their balance and both plunged to the ground below.

Footage reportedly shows the pair drinking beer together with another person shortly beforehand, though it is unclear whether Emely was on duty at the time.

Local reports said she had tried to recover her mobile phone from her partner shortly before the fall.

She was declared dead at the scene after suffering serious head injuries and bleeding profusely.

Henry was stabilised at a local health centre and later transferred to a hospital in Pucallpa where he remains in critical condition.

Emely was reportedly a native of Piura and had been working at the bar, which operates from 10am to 11pm.

Relatives of both victims have criticised the bar for a lack of safety infrastructure and emergency protocols, claiming the ambulance took too long to arrive and that the stairwell was dangerously incomplete.

Local police, the medical examiner, and a representative from the Public Ministry attended the scene and an official investigation is underway into both the cause of the fall and potential criminal liability over safety failures at the bar.
