A young doctor whose bodybuilder boyfriend beat her so badly he broke his hand in the attack said he flew into a jealous rage when he saw her talking to a gay pal.
Samira Khouri, 24, was left with agonising injuries and broken facial bones after her now-ex, Pedro Camilo Garcia Castro, brutally assaulted her last month (July).
CCTV video footage from the couple's apartment block in Santos, southern Brazil shows 24-year-old Castro following his partner down a corridor after a row.
As she walks through a door, he follows her and later comes out, flexing and cradling his left hand painfully.
Later images show Castro outside a police station after hospital treatment with his heavily bandaged hand in plaster and in a sling.
Police say Castro was arrested a few hours after the beating on 14th July.
He had hit Samira so hard that he fractured his hand as he repeatedly punched her in the face.
The victim, who is now slowly recovering but has a long healing process ahead of her, has told how it all happened because of a jealous fit after Castro saw her talking to a gay friend at a party that evening.
The couple had gone out to a nightclub to celebrate Samira's birthday but Castro soon became angry and aggressive, and refused to believe the man was gay.
Security staff had to kick him out of the club and the couple later returned to their apartment, where the argument continued and Castro began hitting Samira.
The attack reportedly lasted six minutes until a neighbour called police after hearing the screams.
Responding officers said the victim's face was "destroyed," and Samira has since had to undergo multiple surgeries on her nose, eyes, jaw, and facial bones.
She was also left with 50 per cent vision loss in one of her eyes and suffers psychological consequences.
Castro fled after the attack but was tracked down and arrested.
He is currently facing charges of attempted murder.
Judge Diego de Alencar Salazar Primo, who ordered him to remain in pre-trial custody, stated: "The way this happened demonstrates cowardice, emotional instability, and concrete dangerousness on the part of the detainee, a large bodybuilder, who punched his girlfriend intensely in the face."
The investigation continues.
