Female Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Woman During Friendly Chat At Busy Metro Station

This is the shocking moment a police officer's gun goes off as she handles it during a friendly chat with a woman outside a busy metro station hitting her in the stomach and seriously injuring her.

CCTV footage shows the incident outside the metro station in the Colinas de Bello Monte district of Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, on 1st June.

The video shows the two women talking calmly beside a railing at the metro station before the officer draws her service pistol, apparently to show it to her companion.

But suddenly the gun goes off and the other woman is hit in the abdomen.

The wounded woman was named by local media as Nairelis del Mar Gonzalez Avalo, 22, who had been chatting with the female officer of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB), named by local media as Siomary Clemencia Fernandez Castillo.

The pair can be seen rushing over to another officer sitting behind a table at the entrance to the metro station as the victim doubles over in pain and sits down as the footage ends.

Firefighters and Civil Protection officers reached the scene to give first aid before the victim was taken to the Domingo Luciani hospital in El Llanito for specialist treatment.

A doctor at the hospital was quoted by local media as saying: "The patient's condition is delicate, but she is in a stable condition."

A spokesman for the PNB said: "Everything points to a regrettable accident with the firearm."

The force has opened an internal investigation to establish how the weapon came to be fired.
