This is the moment a young woman nets a large live fish in a fresh seafood store and stamps on it so she can buy it at a discount price as it was no longer living.
The incident happened in the aquatic section of a supermarket in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China, on 8th August.
Surveillance footage shows the woman scooping a bass from the tank, placing it on the floor, and stepping on it.
She then repeated the process with a second large bass before taking both to the weighing table and insisting on paying the dead fish rate, which was about half the price of live fish.
Staff recognised her from an earlier incident on 1st August when she had allegedly bought two dead fish but only attached one price tag before leaving.
On that occasion, she had paid for one fish but left with two.
This time, the cashier refused to sell her the fish.
The woman walked out of the store without saying a word.
When staff checked the surveillance footage, they found she had deliberately killed the bass.
The supermarket owner released the footage to warn other shopkeepers.
According to the store, live fish are priced higher because of breeding, transport, and loss costs, while dead fish are sold at a reduced price to minimise waste.
They said selling fish at the dead rate when they were deliberately killed caused a direct financial loss.
