At least 23 people were injured with three critical after a fairground ride collapsed at an amusement park in western Saudi Arabia.

The incident occurred on the night between 30th and 31st July, at Green Mountain Park in the Al Hada district of Taif, a mountain resort city popular with tourists.

The ride, known as ‘360 Degrees’, was in operation and carrying passengers when the central pole suddenly snapped in two, sending riders crashing to the ground.

The ride is a pendulum-style attraction in which passengers are strapped into seats at the end of a large swinging arm that rotates around a central vertical pole. As the arm builds momentum, it swings higher with each pass and can complete full 360-degree loops.

In this case, the central pole reportedly snapped mid-operation, causing the entire structure to collapse while riders were in motion.

Some were flung from their seats, while others were injured when the seating platform fell directly to the ground.

Dramatic video footage circulated on social media shows the ride swinging back and forth before breaking apart mid-motion.

Witnesses reported seeing riders being hurled through the air, with at least one person flung several feet from the wreckage.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

Authorities confirmed that three of the injured remain in a critical condition.

Following the incident, Saudi authorities ordered the immediate closure of the amusement park.

Officials from the General Entertainment Authority, local municipalities, and security agencies have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to check whether safety standards had been met.
