A man who got into a row with his wife after he missed his flight set himself on fire at an airline office in the airport after asking staff for a phone.
The incident happened in the T-1 terminal near the Nur Ai & Co ticket office in Almaty, Kazakhstan, at 10:56pm on Monday, 25th August.
Surveillance camera footage shared online shows the man wearing a baseball cap and jacket standing at the counter.
Flames suddenly erupt around him and he runs into the hall before collapsing on the floor.
People rush over with fire extinguishers and put out the blaze as others look on.
The head of Nur Ai & Co, Gulmira Sadvakassova, said the man had entered the office, asked for a phone and made a call, told staff he had missed his flight, and then poured gasoline over himself.
She said the company's agent asked permission to leave the office, and he allowed her to go before setting himself alight.
Police and airport security quickly extinguished the fire, and paramedics took the man to City Hospital No. 4.
Doctors said he is currently in intensive care in a critical condition.
The Department of Transport Police said the man had apparently attempted suicide after a conflict with his common-law wife.
A criminal case has been opened and investigators are carrying out inquiries.
