This is the moment a passenger clings to the outside of a moving bus after the driver allegedly refused to open the doors and drove away with him hanging from the vehicle.

The incident took place near the Sao Bras Terminal in the northern Brazilian city of Belem close to the mouth of the Amazon River, local media reported on 2nd June.

Footage filmed by passengers shows the young commuter gripping the front door of the moving bus while travelling outside the vehicle in heavy traffic.

The passenger can be seen hanging onto the bus as it continues along the road while shocked witnesses record the dangerous journey.

According to witnesses, the incident happened after the driver of a Satelite/UFPA line bus allegedly refused to open the doors because the passenger had attempted to board outside an authorised stop.

Passengers said the bus had already left the boarding platform at Sao Bras Terminal and was preparing to continue its route when the young man tried to get on.

Witnesses claimed the driver pointed towards the correct stop further back and refused to allow him to board.

The commuter then allegedly grabbed onto the outside of the vehicle while asking to be let in, but the driver continued the journey with him still hanging from the door.

It was not reported how long the passenger remained outside the moving bus or whether he was eventually allowed to enter safely.

The Municipal Secretariat for Security, Public Order and Mobility of Belem said it would request explanations from the company responsible for the route and investigate the driver’s conduct.

Officials said administrative measures could be taken if irregularities were identified.

Authorities also urged passengers to board public transport only at authorised stops and platforms in order to avoid dangerous situations.

The Union of Passenger Transport Companies of Belem had not responded to requests for comment at the time local reports were published.
