This is the rare Siamese piglet born with two snouts and three eyes on a farm in Brazil.
The unusual birth happened in the rural district of Tiquarucu, in Bahia state, in the early hours of Tuesday, 26th August.
In a video shared by breeder Raildo Mascarenhas, 50, the piglet can be seen moving shortly after its birth despite the malformation.
Mascarenhas said he had been raising animals for more than 10 years and had never seen anything like it.
He explained that the piglet was born with difficulty feeding, and although attempts were made to let it suckle or receive milk, it was unable to do so because of the deformity.
He added that the sow gave birth to several piglets but only one of them had two mouths, two snouts, and three eyes and it only survived for one day.
The animal was found dead the following morning, Wednesday, 27th August.
Veterinarian Luciano Muritiba told local media that the case was a congenital malformation.
He explained that such anomalies can happen in animals and humans and are usually linked to difficulties feeding and breathing.
Specialist Fabio Mendonca, a researcher at the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco, has previously explained that the condition, known as diprosopia or craniofacial duplication, is not uncommon in pigs and other species such as dogs, cats, and sheep.
Brazil is among the world’s largest users of agricultural pesticides, with application rates significantly higher than in many other countries.
Researchers have warned that exposure during pregnancy in animals and humans can increase the risk of congenital malformations.
