This is the moment the cab of a gas tanker is completely obliterated in a huge explosion after crashing into a stationary car carrier on a busy motorway.
The crash happened on the M-12 highway near Arzamas in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia, at around midday on 23rd August.
Video footage shows the tanker ploughing into the back of the car carrier at full speed. The cab is crushed between its load and the vehicle in front before a violent white gas cloud erupts as the pressurised liquefied carbon dioxide suddenly expands.
Debris from the vehicles scatters across the highway as the force of the blast rips the cab apart.
The regional Ministry of Internal Affairs said the tanker was transporting liquefied carbon dioxide when it ruptured.
The driver of the gas tanker died at the scene.
A man and a child in a passing car were also injured and received medical treatment.
Traffic police are investigating the cause of the accident.
