A worker at a foam factory was roasted to death in a giant styrofoam machine when he apparently set it off while adjusting it.
Technician Carlos da Silva, 33, had been changing the settings inside the press' mould when it suddenly closed on him like a massive sandwich toaster.
The machine heats solid polystyrene at ultra-high temperatures to create solid blocks of foam for mattresses and insulation.
Horrified workmates at the factory in Joinville, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, at around 10:30 am on Monday, 28th July, saw the machine slam shut on da Silva as he stepped inside to change the settings.
Local media reports say he was trapped in the press for five minutes before he could be freed.
Workmates tried desperately to revive da Silva, but paramedics declared him dead with second-degree burns to his face and torso and third-degree burns to his arms.
The factory owner told medics that da Silva was wearing a helmet, safety glasses, ear protectors, gloves and protective shoes when he died.
The police are understood to be investigating his death.
