This video shows the moment a young man rides the handrail of an escalator before smashing a lampshade at the metro station which serves visitors to Gorky Park in Moscow.

The footage was captured on CCTV at the Park Kultury station in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday, 6th August.

The clip shows the 19-year-old sliding down the handrail before crashing into a decorative light fixture on the balustrade, which shatters on impact.

Park Kultury is one of the capital’s best-known stations on the Moscow Metro’s Circle Line and was designed by architect Igor Rozhin.

Opened in 1950, it features neoclassical architecture, marble columns, and elegant lighting that reflect the Soviet vision of underground stations as public palaces.

The smashed lampshade is believed to be part of this distinctive interior design, which has earned the Moscow Metro an international reputation for its opulence.

According to the Moscow Metro Police Department, the young man broke the lamp after sitting on the handrail while descending the escalator.

He was detained within minutes by officers from the patrol and guard service of the Moscow Metro Department of Internal Affairs and taken to the police station.

In a statement, officials said: “It has been preliminarily established that a 19-year-old resident of the capital, while going down the escalator at the Park Kultury metro station, sat on the handrail and broke the light fixture on the balustrade.”

The police filed administrative charges for petty hooliganism and destruction or damage to property.

The case has been sent to court for further action.
