This is the moment several children who climbed over guardrails at a Chinese museum play with stuffed animals as parents looked on and even took photographs.
The incident took place at the Shanghai Natural History Museum in the city’s Jing’an District on 9th August.
Around 10 children crossed the wooden waist-high railings in the African Savannah multimedia exhibition area on the B2 floor.
Footage filmed by visitors shows the children playing with the stuffed animals.
The video was posted online by two middle school students visiting Shanghai, who said the children were already inside the fenced-off area when they arrived.
The Shanghai Natural History Museum confirmed the incident on 10th August and said there were signs prohibiting climbing or touching throughout the hall.
Staff explained that security guards had not spotted the children in time due to the large number of tourists but later intervened.
The museum said the specimens were protected by a sealed formalin coating that poses no risk to human health, and their condition would be checked.
It added that summer holiday visitor numbers had peaked at over 4,000 people on the day and that inspections in key areas had since been stepped up.
The museum urged visitors not to cross fences or touch exhibits and to help protect the displays by setting a good example for children.
