A twisted ex-husband who allegedly stabbed his former wife 31 times told her horrified sister over the phone that she was “next” before sending her a photo of the murdered woman.
Demet Akarsu, 45, was found dead in the Cigli district of Izmir, Turkey, just one month after divorcing Halil Tezkorkmaz, 46. He reportedly killed her following an argument on 19th July, despite a restraining order being in place.
Her sister Dilek Hinisli, 47, said: “He called me, I put him on busy and blocked his number. Then I called Demet and Halil answered.
"He said, ‘Demet is dead, it’s your turn.’ ”
The jilted man, Halil Tezkorkmaz, 46, allegedly stabbed her to death one month after the divorce, on 19th July, following yet another argument.
She reportedly suffered 31 stab wounds and could not be saved, according to reports.
Tezkorkmaz was arrested a short while later.
Dilek said that shortly after her sister and Tezkorkmaz had got married, he had hit her in the face just three months into the marriage.
She said: "There are hospital records and reports, but she didn't file a complaint because she was afraid.
"My sister sought refuge with us during the last incident of violence.
"She said: 'I can't do it, I can't go back home.'
"She told my mother she wanted a divorce and asked us to help her.
"We did everything we could during the divorce process. My sister applied for a restraining order and got it. We even extended the order.
"This incident happened while there was a restraining order in place. He wouldn't let my sister go.
"She was constantly threatened, but we weren't aware of most of these threats. She probably couldn't tell us all because she wanted to protect us."
Dilek added: "Tezkorkmaz killed my sister and sent me a photo of her. I saw the photo late at night.
"When I saw it, we immediately reported it to the police. No one deserves to be killed so brutally.
"Everything we said wouldn't happen to us has happened to us. We are heartbroken.
"Penalties should be a deterrent, and perpetrators of violence should be imprisoned for life.”
