A man is facing up to four years in prison after being arrested for allegedly torturing a dog by cutting off both of its ears.
The incident took place in Yeni Mahalle in the Gemlik district of Bursa, Turkey, on 6th August.
The Gemlik Voluntary Animal Lovers Association filed a complaint with police after learning that a dog in the neighbourhood had been found with both ears severed.
The injured animal was taken for treatment. A photograph shows the dog standing on a roadside, its head still showing signs of injury, with both ear flaps missing.
Police detained 28-year-old Dogukan Sayili, who is accused of carrying out the mutilation and torturing the animal, before taking him to the station for questioning.
He was later brought before a court and ordered to be held in custody under Turkey’s animal protection law.
If convicted, Sayılı could be sentenced to between six months and four years in prison.
