This footage shows a pickpocket fresh out of prison stealing a man's wallet on a train and making a run for it even though he cannot escape as the train is still moving.
The incident took place in Moscow, the capital of Russia, earlier this month (July), with CCTV images showing the suspect, not named but said to be 22, stealing the man's wallet and running off as the victim gives chase.
CCTV images show him and a second man spotting the victim and while the accomplice walks on, the 22-year-old stops after seeing a wallet sticking out of the sleeping man's trousers.
He signals to his accomplice to remain quiet before taking a deep breath and snatching he wallet.
He then sprints off down the carriage and out of shot as the victim jumps to his feet and chases after him.
Local media reports said that the suspect stole RUB 170,000 (GBP 1,560) in cash that was in the wallet but not for long as he was quickly caught with no place to run.
The Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office said in a statement on 28th July: "During the preliminary investigation, it was established that a native of the Volgograd region, previously convicted of fraud and recently released from prison, came to Moscow to look for work.
"In early July 2025, he and his friend, while on the MCD-2 train, stole a wallet containing 170 thousand rubles from a sleeping passenger.
"The crime was committed by prior agreement and with the distribution of roles.
"At the request of the investigative body, supported by the Moscow-Kursk Transport Prosecutor's Office, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for one attacker.
"His accomplice is wanted."
