This is the shocking moment a woman in a white dress is dragged along the pavement by a man who allegedly tried to steal her purse and a package containing more than GBP 5,000.
The incident took place in Saint Petersburg, Russia, outside a shopping and entertainment centre at around 1:30pm on 30th July.
CCTV footage shows the young blonde woman struggling as the suspect pulls her during the robbery attempt, which was interrupted by a passerby.
According to police, the 38-year-old victim said she had just exited the centre when the man sprayed an aerosol substance in her face, pushed her, and attempted to snatch a handbag worth RUB 30,000 (GBP 285) and a package containing RUB 550,000 (GBP 5,200) in cash.
Officers detained the 23-year-old unemployed resident of Kanonersky Island approximately 30 minutes later near the same location. He was taken into custody for questioning.
A criminal case has been launched under Part 2 of Article 162 of the Russian Criminal Code (robbery), and investigators are currently deciding on a preventive measure.
