This is the moment two women and a toddler are thrown to the ground when a pickup truck crashes into their motorcycle right in front of a police car.
The accident happened on the Mario Freire Leahy highway in Penedo, Brazil, on 7th August.
Security camera footage shows a Toyota Hilux SW4 entering the main lane from a side road and colliding violently with a Shineray motorcycle carrying the women and the child.
None of the three is wearing helmets, and the impact sends them flying across the asphalt.
The toddler hits the ground in the arms of one of the women who can be seen landing heavily.
According to the Penedo Municipal Transportation and Traffic Superintendence, the pickup driver had just exited a busy road and claimed he did not see the motorcycle.
The Fire Department said the 24-year-old woman suffered a fracture, the 23-year-old had bruises, and the two-year-old suffered a contusion to the forehead.
The Brazilian Traffic Code states that helmets are mandatory and that children under 10 may not be transported on motorcycles. Officials said the driver also broke rules by riding without closed-toe shoes.
A police patrol vehicle was following closely behind at the time, and witnesses suggested the car driver might have been trying to flee from a police approach.
Emergency services took the victims to a hospital for treatment. Their current condition has not been confirmed.
