This is the dramatic moment two police officers save a six-year-old boy who had wandered onto railway tracks seconds before a train sped through the crossing.
The incident took place in the town of Mikolow, in Poland, at around 4:30 am on 26th July, after police were alerted by a passerby who had seen a small child wandering alone in the street.
When officers arrived, they found the boy playing on the tracks as the barriers for an approaching train were being lowered.
When he saw the police, he ran away frightened, and seconds later the train sped past exactly where he had been sitting on the tracks.
CCTV footage shows the child running over the railway as warning lights flash and the safety barriers lower.
Officers Sergeant Dawid Furman and Senior Constable Patrycja Wolny from the Patrol and Intervention Unit are seen arriving at the crossing and sprinting from their patrol car after spotting the boy crouched on the rails.
The intervention saw him running away to safety just moments before the train races through the crossing, with the child later returned unharmed to his family.
Police spokeswoman Izabela Kempka said: “It turned out that the six-year-old woke up during the night while his parents and grandparents were sleeping. The boy pulled out hidden keys, placed a stool under the door, and left the family home.”
She added: “We also thank the bystander who called us for help. The police saved the child at the last minute.”
A statement from the Mikolow County Police Headquarters said the officers’ quick response had prevented a tragedy and urged guardians to be especially vigilant.
