A black bear walked up to the door of a university classroom and left students and teachers stunned as it peered curiously inside.
The incident happened at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon (UANL) on the Mederos Campus in Monterrey, Mexico, on the morning of Friday, 22nd August.
In a video posted online, the bear can be seen standing in front of the classroom door. Two people inside the room remain motionless as the animal looks in.
The footage shows the bear lingering briefly before leaving without causing harm.
Students and staff said the animal has been seen on campus before but this was the first time it had reached a classroom.
Similar cases of wildlife entering urban areas have occurred in Nuevo Leon in the past, particularly involving black bears, a species native to the region.
The expansion of urbanised areas and the search for food are usually what drive this kind of encounter, according to biologists from local universities.
State authorities are maintaining ongoing campaigns to inform students and academic staff about the proper protocols to follow when wild animals appear in university settings.
The university said activities resumed as normal after the incident.
