A billionaire dubbed the ‘Egg King’ has sued a dry cleaner after his designer cashmere sweater was returned visibly shrunken and too short to cover his belly button.

The incident happened in June 2023 when businessman Ricardo Faria, 50, sent the expensive Loro Piana sweater to a 5asec branch in Alphaville, Brazil.

In photographs attached to his lawsuit, Faria can be seen wearing the light green Italian-made garment, which now looks tight and cropped, its hem riding well above his waistband.

Faria, who made the Forbes list of billionaires last year with an estimated fortune of USD 3.11 billion (GBP 2.3 billion),
told the court he had purchased the Mongolian goat wool sweater in New York for USD 2,373 (GBP 1,700).

He demanded reimbursement for the sweater’s value and at least BRL 5,000 (GBP 680) in moral damages for "pain and suffering".

The dry cleaner said there was no proof the sweater had been damaged in its care because it was not provided for expert examination.

Their legal team stated: "Unfortunately, the world does not revolve around the claimant’s belly button."

On 18th June 2025, Judge Fabiana Tsuchiya ordered the company to pay the value of the sweater but rejected the claim for moral damages, calling the matter a "mere annoyance."

The court allowed the payment to be made in instalments with a 30 per cent down payment and the balance due within six months.

5asec told Piaui magazine the businessman remains a customer.
