This is the shocking moment a van is crushed by a train at high speed after its driver gets stuck on the tracks when trying to jump a red light.

The dramatic incident took place in the village of Wola Filipowska, Krakow County, Poland, shortly before 7am on 1st August.

CCTV footage shows the white Opel van driving onto the level crossing as the barriers begin to lower and then stopping between them.

As one of the barriers drops more slowly, the driver appears to have time to exit but instead reverses slightly and then pulls forward again, remaining on the tracks.

He then tries to edge the van as far to the side as possible in an apparent attempt to avoid the oncoming train.

But seconds later, a passenger train travelling from Swinoujscie to Krakow ploughs into the vehicle, destroying it on impact.

Police said neither the driver nor any of the train's passengers were injured and no medical treatment was needed.

The case is currently under investigation by the prosecutor's office.

Police later released the surveillance footage as a reminder of safety rules at railway crossings.

They urged drivers not to enter crossings when lights are flashing or barriers are in motion and warned that trains cannot stop suddenly, with braking distances exceeding a kilometre.

They also advised motorists that if a vehicle becomes trapped between barriers, they should press through them if needed to escape the tracks, as this will trigger the emergency mechanism and allow for safe exit.
