This is the moment part of a historic student dormitory, recognised as a cultural heritage site, collapses in a huge cloud of dust and debris.
The dramatic incident took place at around 10 p.m. on 30th July in the city of Ufa, Russia, with the footage showing the five-storey building groaning and creaking before its outer wall suddenly gives way.
Three people can be seen standing in front of the building and quickly stepping back as the top floors crash to the ground, sending a thick cloud of smoke and rubble billowing towards them.
Local media reported that the building, located at 52a Kommunisticheskaya Street, was constructed between 1953 and 1958 to house around 200 students of the Bashkir Cooperative College.
It was commissioned by the Bashpotrebsoyuz consumer union and built by the firm Ufastroy, based on a design by architect Fyodorov.
The dormitory was part of a larger complex near the intersection of Kommunisticheskaya and Lenin streets and is considered a classic example of Stalinist-era neoclassical architecture.
It was officially designated a “discovered cultural heritage” site in 2017 due to its historical and architectural significance.
Ownership of the building was transferred to Bashpotrebsoyuz in 2006, and by 2010, it was under the control of the Cooperative College.
Although the site had been evacuated in 2024 due to safety concerns, it remained listed as a heritage site pending full registration with the Unified State Register of Russian Cultural Monuments.
Prosecutors and heritage officials have now launched an investigation to determine whether the collapse was due to a failure by the owners to maintain the property, and whether legal obligations under cultural preservation laws were breached.
The regional Emergencies Ministry said that, according to preliminary data, there are no casualties.
