Two robbers hurled acid at a jeweller and his staff while trying to steal gold but were caught by locals after a dramatic chase.
The attack happened in Attur, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, at around 8:35pm on 7th August.
CCTV footage shows one man entering AVS Jewellers posing as a customer while Vaitheeswaran, his wife Selva Lakshmi, and employee Vasanthi display jewellery.
The second man involved in the attack is not visible in the video.
The footage then shows the visible suspect suddenly throwing acid at the victims and trying to run out with several boxes containing 80 pieces of gold jewellery.
Despite his injuries, Vaitheeswaran grabbed the attacker and prevented him from escaping with the gold.
The second suspect reportedly ran through the shopping street with a revolver, threatening people in his path.
Locals chased him for nearly a mile before overpowering him and seizing the weapon.
Police arrested both suspects and recovered the revolver.
The victims are recovering from their injuries after the attack that has shocked the local community.
