An elderly woman had a miraculous escape when the crumbling building of a government school collapsed seconds after she walked past.

The incident took place in the Hapur district, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, on Monday afternoon, 4th August.

CCTV footage shows the woman walking along the street past the dilapidated school building, which suddenly gives way and collapses into rubble just behind her. Fortunately, no students were inside at the time.

Locals can be seen rushing out after hearing the loud crash, with dust and debris filling the area as the walls cave in. Emergency services arrived at the site shortly afterwards.
