This is the moment Red Cross volunteers rescue families trapped by wildfires in Greece after flames swept all the way to the sea.
The dramatic operation unfolded in Vrachneika, Achaia, after the blaze broke out at noon on Tuesday and continued to burn until Wednesday, 13th August.
Video released by the Hellenic Red Cross shows volunteers in a lifeboat approaching the shore to pull residents and their pets to safety.
The footage shows people in the water being hauled aboard as a dark, ash-filled sky looms overhead and flames rage in the background.
According to the Red Cross, lifeguards used the boat to remove trapped families and animals from Vrachneika when the blaze reached the coastline.
The same clip also shows volunteer Samaritan Rescuers battling the fire front in Vounteni through the night.
They can be seen working in thick smoke as glowing embers fall around them.
In Vounteni, teams fought the flames all night to protect homes and businesses.
In a statement posted with the video, the Red Cross said: “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
