Police have released images of a clueless armed robber who carried out a raid on an upmarket hotel but repeatedly failed to cover his face during the holdup.
The robbery took place at the reception of a hotel on Rua 5 de Julho in Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the night of Thursday, 21st August.
Security camera footage shows the suspect trying to enter the hotel with his face covered by a piece of clothing while holding a cap in one hand. As he reaches for a gun inside his backpack, both the clothing and cap fall away.
The man is then seen struggling to keep his face hidden as the clothing slips from his shoulders.
Despite fumbling with his disguise, he points the firearm at staff, and somehow forces them to hand over the hotel’s cash register.
In the video, he drops his cap again before fleeing on foot.
Police said the robber also took a mobile phone as well as an undisclosed sum of money during the raid.
Two hotel employees and a guest were briefly held at gunpoint during the incident.
The Military Police confirmed that officers from the 19th Battalion in Copacabana were dispatched but were unable to locate the suspect.
The case has been registered at the 13th Police Station in Ipanema and investigations are ongoing.
