An elderly man riding a three-wheeled electric tricycle with an older woman on board failed to stop in time as a lift barrier descended and knocked her from the back seat onto the road.
The incident took place in Henan Province, China, on 29th July, as the pair were exiting a residential complex.
Surveillance footage shows the man driving behind a car as it exits the complex.
As the car clears the gate, the automatic lift barrier begins to lower, but the tricycle continues forward.
The barrier arm strikes the woman seated upright on the back bench of the tricycle, flipping her backwards off the vehicle and landing her flat on the tarmac.
The man immediately stops, jumps off, and runs back towards her, just as the barrier continues to descend, narrowly missing his head.
He then helps the woman back onto her feet and over to the side of the road. She does not appear seriously hurt and is seen standing with his assistance.
