A 28-year-old woman kidnapped and raped by her ex-partner escaped after he stopped the car at a petrol station to get fuel, and she ran away when a police car pulled in.
The incident happened in Corinto, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on Tuesday night, 26th August. Security cameras at the petrol station captured the moment the woman fled from the vehicle.
In the video the attacker parks to refuel while the victim sits in the passenger seat visibly distressed.
She holds her head in her hands and unbuckles her seatbelt as a Military Police patrol car arrives.
The footage shows her running from the car and straight towards the officers as the man jumps out after her trying to stop her. The officers restrain him and she gets into the patrol car.
According to police records, the 35-year-old ex-partner had kidnapped her earlier that day in Conceicao do Mato Dentro after threatening her with a knife and forcing her into his vehicle.
She told officers he took her phone, made threats to kill her, and at one point forced her onto a dirt road where he raped her before resuming the journey.
The journey continued for around 130 miles as he threatened to drive off a cliff if she called for help.
Police said she was "completely shaken" and feared for her life when she finally managed to escape at the petrol station.
Captain Marcio Brandao said in a statement: "She saw hope of being saved and, at the first opportunity, got out of the vehicle and ran towards the officers, while the attacker got out behind her, trying to prevent her from making contact with the vehicle.
"At that moment, the officers managed to approach the suspect and arrest him."
He added: "Thanks to the officers' actions, a life was saved."
The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken into custody and charged with rape, threats, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
The car and the victim's cell phone were seized as evidence.
The woman, also not named, was taken to a municipal emergency room for treatment and is now requesting a protective order.
