A father who carried his six-year-old son into the path of a water slide and was struck by a woman coming down is facing a criminal investigation after the child suffered a serious liver injury.

The accident happened at the Rodeo Drive water park in St. Petersburg, Russia, on 5th August.

Footage from CCTV cameras shows the child’s father holding him in his arms as he swims directly into the slide’s exit path.

Despite staff members reportedly shouting warnings, he continues forward, and seconds later a woman exits the slide at high speed and crashes into them, striking the child in the abdomen with her feet.

According to the Investigative Committee, the boy was seriously injured and rushed to hospital, where doctors diagnosed a ruptured liver.

Emergency surgery was performed and he has since regained consciousness, although his condition remains serious.

The woman who crashed into the child has reportedly apologised to the family, and the boy’s parents have stated they do not blame her or the water park for what happened.

But a preliminary investigation for causing serious bodily harm through negligence has now been opened against the dad.

The prosecutor’s office has confirmed that it is monitoring the progress and outcome of the investigation.

It is understood that neither the woman who came down the slide nor the water park itself is under investigation.

The child remains in intensive care as the investigation continues.
