This footage shows the moment a man pushes a poor donkey on a zipline as the terrified animal treads air with its legs while panicking at the sight of the ground hundreds of feet below it.

The incident took place in the Khunzakh region of Dagestan, Russia, on 25th June, but the video only began circulating widely on social media after being reposted on 28th July.

The footage shows the man pushing the donkey on the zipline, with the animal strapped into a harness secured around its body.

The terrified creature appears to try to run as it is launched off a platform and shoots through the air towards the other side, with its legs flailing as if trying to find the ground.

According to local reports, the man was an influencer attempting to gain views by posting the stunt online. Laughter can be heard in the background as the animal glides across the vast drop beneath.

The video has triggered a strong backlash from animal rights activists and members of the public, with many calling for the man to be prosecuted under Article 245 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers animal cruelty.

One netizen said: “Poor donkey. Why such abuse from bipeds? They should be held accountable.”

Another said: “I hope that the unknown people who let the donkey walk the rope will become known to the police department.”

As the outrage grew, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Dagestan confirmed it had launched an investigation. Spokesperson Gayana Gariyeva said that while the donkey appeared to be physically unharmed after the stunt, it was impossible to rule out serious stress.

She said: “The animal could have experienced serious stress."

Despite the outcry, officials acknowledged that under Russian law, prosecution may only follow if it can be proven that the animal suffered pain, injury, or death.

Since the donkey arrived safely at the other end of the line, legal consequences may depend on whether stress alone qualifies as sufficient grounds.
