A woman lost a gold bracelet worth more than GBP 3,100 after her pet cat pushed it into a rubbish bin and she unknowingly threw it away with the trash.
The incident happened in Guilin, in Guangxi Province, China, on Sunday, 17th August.
CCTV footage shows the cat climbing onto a coffee table and pawing at the bracelet before knocking it into a bin placed next to the table.
The cat flips the bracelet back and forth with its paws before it slides over the edge and falls into the rubbish.
Ms Wang, the owner, had removed the bracelet and left it on the table while washing dishes.
Later that evening, she took the rubbish out without realising the bracelet had been inside.
She only remembered it nearly 18 hours later and checked surveillance recordings, which revealed the cat’s playful actions.
Ms Wang filed a police report, but the rubbish had already been collected and sent for incineration.
She said she was upset for several days after losing the bracelet worth CNY 30,000 (GBP 3,115).
The footage has gone viral on Chinese social media, where users advise keeping valuables away from curious pets.
