A mum has been jailed for 40 years for stabbing her nine-year-old daughter to death then taking a break to get the energy to rip off her head, put the body parts in the fridge and dissolve the rest in acid to flush down the drain.
Ruth Floriano, 32, confessed to stabbing her little daughter in the bathroom when she was brushing her teeth between 8th and 9th August 2023.
She claimed she wanted to get revenge on her ex and stop the child moaning about her new lover.
But she was caught when her new lover's mum grew worried that a fridge wrapped in duct tape and always switched on might contain drugs - and decided to open it to see.
At the time of her arrest, Floriano admitted that her actions were driven by a desire for revenge against her ex-partner, who is also the father of the dead child.
But the court in Sao Paulo, Brazil, heard that she was also upset with the girl, named Alany Izilda Floriano Silva, because she would not accept her new relationship with another man.
According to the police report, the girl was brushing her teeth when her mother pulled her aside and stabbed her.
She left the her daughter lying there for about three hours before she "worked up the courage to rip off the victim's head."
After killing and dismembering Alany, she stored parts of girl's remains in her refrigerator for more than two weeks.
She then tried to dispose of the body gradually, so as not to arouse suspicion.
She cut out the girl's chest and cooked it, then attempted dissolving body parts after searching online on how to do it using acid to flush them down the drain.
The barbaric plot unravelled when she moved in with her new boyfriend, approximately 15 days after the murder.
His mother grew suspicious of the oddly wrapped fridge, that was covered with a sheet and sealed with duck tape, but stayed plugged in.
She also found it strange that it took as many as four neighbours to help carry the unusually heavy fridge into the home.
Thinking it contained illicit substances or weapons, she decided to open it, and that was when she made the gruesome discovery.
Floriano was charged with triple-qualified homicide and concealing a corpse and was found guilty of the charge by a popular jury during a trial on Monday, 28th July.
During the hearing, prosecutor Daniel Dallarosa emphasised that the defendant had demonstrated "psychopathy" and "lack of remorse" throughout the trial.
The prosecutor also argued that "the emotional coldness and lack of empathy characteristic of the disorder do not exempt her from responsibility."
Floriano was ordered to serve 40 years and 10 months in prison.
Her defence team has not yet commented on the verdict.
